FAQs
There are two seasons in the Amazon: a season of rainy and a season of low water and both have something different to offer. The Amazon has a growing period from December to May. The rivers can reach 36 feet (11 meters), the highest, so there are more waterways (rivers, creeks, and lakes, known as oxbow lakes) to navigate and explore on the boat. The empty period begins in June and lasts until the end of November. During the low season, you can access the jungle trails that were flooded during the flood season. This allows for more opportunities to walk deeper into the jungle. Each season features differences in plant and animal life, as well as the weather. Whatever time you choose. You will be amazed by the impressive landscapes and opportunities.
The climate in Iquitos is hot and humid with an average annual maximum temperature of 33C (95F) and a minimum of 21C (70F). Rain occurs in whatever season you choose to visit, but a little more during the growing season (December – May). Temperature, humidity, or daylight hours don't vary much due to its proximity to the equator, just 4 degrees south. All activities are subject to change due to weather conditions and time of year.
Our Amazon tours start at 9:00 am on the first day and end at 5:00 pm on the last day of the tour. On the day of arrival we recommend arriving on the earliest flights and the latest flights for your day of departure. The earliest flight for your arrival day is because if there is a flight delay we can easily handle it and this would allow us to manage it better, if not we will accommodate your travel schedule and make sure no activities are missed, Otherwise, schedule your arrival flight one day before the tour.
We make sure to wait for you at the airport, based on the information and arrival time of your flight, based on the type of package you have chosen with us. We will carry a sign where our logo is Amazon Expeditions-Peru including your name so that you can easily recognize us.

In order for us to accept a reservation of any package, we must have 3 availabilities:
- Room available (only for packages with accommodation).
- Bilingual guide.
- Adequate transportation.
Only with these three characteristics can we accept the reservation to what we call "operational availability".
Although water and food are generally safe in Peru, occasional stomach upset may occur, and we suggest you ask your doctor to recommend anti-diarrheal medication. We recommend that you drink bottled water, which will be available in hotels, ecolodges, and on luxury cruise ships.
We can accommodate your dietary restrictions for vegetarians, vegans, upon request at no additional charge. If you have special dietary requests, please let us know at the time of booking, or at least 10 days before departure.
In the ecolodge service electricity is limited, there is 220V power only a few hours each night to charge devices. Most camera, cell phone, and computer chargers will work on 220 volts, but we recommend you bring an adapter so you don't risk damaging your device or equipment, we suggest you check your owner's manual first.
There will be no electricity in the adventure expedition in the Pacaya – Samiria reserve, because we will be in remote places, inside the jungle, in the middle of nowhere.
For luxury cruise packages we have powers from 110 V to 220 V 24 hours a day.
While you are on our tours and expeditions in the Amazon, there will be no WIFI and mobile phone services. This is an opportunity to connect with nature and get away from the outside world. There will probably be mobile services while we navigate through a town or city, but most of the time you will be completely cut off.
We always think about your comfort and a better experience. That's why we accommodate groups as well as solo travelers. Small groups and solo travelers share excursions, depending on the type of package you've chosen, but accommodations are always private and group sizes never exceed 10 participants per group per guide.
According to the type of programs and itineraries that you are taking with us, you will have the opportunity to visit a local town or a native community along the Amazon River or its tributaries to learn and observe the daily life and customs of the local population. . If you want to help the Amazon people, as an option, you can bring school supplies (pencil, pens, eraser, notebooks, etc.), toothbrushes, toothpaste, hair clips, sandals, volleyballs, soccer balls , etc. Or you can buy their handmade crafts.
Regarding money, to buy handicrafts in the Amazon region or for tips you will need (S/. soles – the currency of Peru) in small denominations. Also, when US dollars can be used, new bills are recommended, the bills must not be damaged (no tears, no marks, no creases or wear). You can exchange money upon arrival at the Lima airport or at your hotel. You will not be able to exchange money or get soles in small denominations in the middle of the jungle.
Tipping is customary all over the world, it is always a matter of personal choice. The amount is completely discreet depending on the level of service and attention you have received. If you wish to tip the guide and staff, please bring cash (New Soles or US dollars in new bills).
Passport If you are a foreigner you will need a passport that is valid for at least six months after the completion of your jungle trip. It is always a good idea to have a photocopy of your airline tickets and the pages of your passport where your passport number is displayed, keep the copies separate from the originals.
Visa: If you are a US, Canadian or Australian citizen, the only document you will need is a passport that is valid for six months after the end of your trip. If you are not a US, Canadian, or Australian citizen, please contact the nearest Peruvian embassy or consulate for visa requirements to enter Peru. If a visa is required, you are responsible for obtaining it. Malaria has not been reported in the areas we explored, but the Center for Disease Control recommends malaria prophylaxis and yellow fever vaccination for all travelers to the Peruvian Amazon, as well as hepatitis A, B and typhoid fever. The CDC also recommends that routine immunizations be up-to-date: Influenza, Varicella (or chickenpox), Polio, Measles/Mumps/Rubella (MMR vaccine), Diphtheria/Tetanus/Pertussis (DTP vaccine).
The Center for Disease Control also recommends the use of insect repellant (bug spray) with 30 – 50% DEET to avoid contracting mosquito-borne diseases such as dengue fever. For more detailed health information, you can consult the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) for health information for travelers to Peru. http://wwwnc.cdc.gov/travel/destinations/traveler/none/peru

We are licensed and insured with over 16 years of experience with very well trained local naturalist guides who are fluent in English and Spanish. Our team is trained and experienced enough to recommend the best to minimize any risk. Please, during the trips, follow the suggestions of the guides and do not pressure to do activities that may increase any risk.

We also recommend that you purchase trip cancellation insurance for your adventure as the cancellation term and conditions (as outlined on our website) will be strictly enforced.
In such circumstances of change, cancellation or return requested by the client for Full Day tours or personalized tour packages.
Amazon Expeditions – Peru is not responsible for refunds in the event that the traveler for personal reasons or illness, during the use of the service, has to abandon the tour, nor for medical expenses due to pre-existing illnesses or those that develop in the route or in cases of natural events.
